Holiday Blue vs Express Red
Holiday Blue and Express Red are DAA's two main long-stay car parks at Dublin Airport, and between them they hold around 16,000 spaces. They share an operator, a booking system, 24-hour security and a free round-the-clock shuttle. The differences are narrower than the price gap might suggest, but they are real: transfer time, shuttle frequency, vehicle rules and accessibility. This comparison sets them side by side, quantifies the time difference and gives a clear recommendation for each type of trip.
Express Red is the faster option: its shuttle runs every 10 minutes and takes about 5 minutes to the terminals. Holiday Blue is the cheaper option: its shuttle runs every 15 minutes and takes about 15 minutes. On average, Express Red saves roughly 12 minutes on each leg of the journey, and it has confirmed advantages for accessible parking and tall vehicles.
Through us, a week starts from €56.99 at Holiday Blue and €66.99 at Express Red, a €10 difference. Choose Holiday Blue for longer holidays where price matters most and your timings are flexible. Choose Express Red for short trips, early departures, travellers with reduced mobility and high-top vans.

What Is the Difference Between Holiday Blue and Express Red?

| Return pick-up at Terminal 1 | Zone 9 | Zone 8 |
| Return pick-up at Terminal 2 | Zone 21 | Zone 21 |
| Security | 24-hour, staffed | 24-hour |
| Height restriction | None | Not published by DAA |
| Vehicle exclusions | Trailers, large commercial vehicles | HGVs, trailers, large commercial vehicles |
| Minimum pre-booked stay | 24 hours | Not specified by DAA |

| Price with us, 7 days | From €66.99 | From €56.99 |

The core difference is the trade-off between time and price. Express Red is closer to the terminals with a faster, more frequent shuttle, and it costs more. Holiday Blue has a longer, less frequent shuttle, and it costs less. Express Red also has the larger published accessible provision and no height restriction.
The Real Journey Time Difference
Published shuttle times only tell part of the story, because the wait for the bus is often longer than the ride. Combining DAA's frequency and journey figures gives a more accurate picture of the time from bus shelter to terminal:
| Scenario | Express Red | Holiday Blue | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best case (bus waiting) | 5 min | 15 min | 10 min |
| Average (wait of half the interval) | About 10 min | About 22 to 23 min | About 12 to 13 min |
| Worst case (bus just left) | 15 min | 30 min | 15 min |
Calculated from DAA's published shuttle frequency and journey times. Excludes time at the entry barrier, parking and walking to the shelter, which apply to both.
Across a return trip, Express Red saves around 25 minutes on average and up to 30 minutes in the worst case. DAA's own planning advice reflects this: it suggests allowing up to 40 minutes to park and transfer from Express Red in normal traffic, and recommends allowing 30 minutes when parking at Holiday Blue, with more time needed at peak periods for both. In practice, Holiday Blue users should plan for the longer end of any estimate.
Is Express Red Worth the Extra Cost?
Express Red is worth the extra cost when your time is constrained, when your stay is short, or when you need its accessibility or vehicle advantages. For a long holiday with flexible timings, the saving at Holiday Blue usually outweighs the extra 25 minutes or so of transfer time across the trip.
Both car parks use demand-based pricing, so the gap changes with dates. Four reference points show its typical scale:
- Our year-round prices: from €56.99 at Holiday Blue and €66.99 at Express Red for 7 days, a €10 difference, widening to about €28 in peak season.
- CCPC averages (June 2025): the regulator found Park2Travel was 21% cheaper than Express Red and 3.6% cheaper than Holiday Blue. Taken together, those figures imply Express Red averaged roughly a fifth more than Holiday Blue over the period reviewed.
- 2026 price snapshot: a 10-day stay was listed at €132 at Express Red and €95 at Holiday Blue, a difference of €37, or about €3.70 per day.
- Drive-up rates: DAA charges €25 per day at Express Red and €20 at Holiday Blue, a €5 daily difference.
A useful way to decide is to put a value on the time. On our year-round prices, a week at Express Red costs €10 more and saves about 25 minutes over the round trip on average, roughly 40 cents per minute saved. For a business traveller on a two-day trip, the absolute difference is small and the time saving matters. For a family on a two-week holiday, the cash saving at Holiday Blue grows with every day while the time saving stays the same.
| Length of stay | Express Red (from) | Holiday Blue (from) | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 days | €35.99 | €27.99 | €8.00 |
| 7 days | €66.99 | €56.99 | €10.00 |
| 14 days | €132.99 | €112.99 | €20.00 |
Our lowest year-round price for each stay length. Prices vary by date and are higher during school holidays, Christmas and summer. In peak season our prices are about €12 apart for 3 days, €28 for 7 days and €52 for 14 days. At drive-up rates, the difference is €35 for 7 days and €70 for 14 days.
Accessibility, Vehicles and Other Practical Differences
Accessibility. DAA states that accessible parking options are available at all its car parks and that all long-term shuttles are wheelchair accessible. Express Red has 65 dedicated accessible bays located beside its shuttle stops; DAA does not publish a separate count for Holiday Blue. For drivers or passengers with reduced mobility, Express Red offers the most certainty. Blue Badge holders can request a PRM code for DAA's reduced rate. See our guide to disabled parking at Dublin Airport.
Tall vehicles. DAA confirms there is no height restriction at Express Red. It does not publish a height figure for Holiday Blue, and it excludes trucks and HGVs there. Neither car park accepts trailers or large commercial vehicles. See our guide to van and campervan parking.
Return pick-up. Both shuttles collect from Zone 21 at Terminal 2. At Terminal 1, Express Red uses Zone 9 and Holiday Blue uses the neighbouring Zone 8. Check the destination on the bus before boarding.
Availability. Holiday Blue, as the lower-priced option, often fills early on peak dates, and its drive-up spaces are limited. If you are booking late for summer or Christmas, check both.
What is the same. Both car parks use the same DAA booking and amendment rules (free changes up to four hours before arrival), offer 24-hour security, on-site breakdown help, two 50 kW EV chargers each and Crystal Valet car cleaning.
Which Is Better for Your Trip?
Express Red is better for short trips, early flights, accessible parking and tall vehicles. Holiday Blue is better for longer holidays where cost matters most and an extra 10 to 15 minutes each way is acceptable.
| Your trip | Recommended | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Business trip of 1 to 3 days | Express Red | Small price gap (€8 for 3 days), meaningful time saving |
| Family holiday of 7 to 14 days | Holiday Blue | Saving grows with each day; time difference stays fixed |
| Flight departing before 7am | Express Red | Faster, more frequent shuttle protects tight margins |
| Afternoon or evening departure | Holiday Blue | Extra transfer time is easy to absorb |
| Blue Badge or reduced mobility | Express Red | 65 accessible bays beside the shuttle stops |
| High-top van or campervan | Express Red | No height restriction confirmed |
| Booking late for a peak date | Whichever is available | Check both; either can sell out |

Consider a Third Option
Holiday Blue and Express Red are not the only long-stay options. Park2Travel, the independent car park run by APCOA on the former QuickPark site, has a shuttle of about 6 minutes every 12 minutes, much closer to Express Red than Holiday Blue, and the CCPC found it cheaper than both on average in 2025. Through us it starts from €70.99 for a week. It differs in other ways, including a single return pick-up point at Terminal 1 and a 3-hour overstay grace period.
